The Middle East is growing in importance for international tourism and especially for the Chinese outbound tourism.
For Egypt, Chinese outbound tourists were the fourth biggest source market with around 500,000 arrivals in 2019, mostly visiting the traditional major sights.
For UAE, Chinese outbound tourists were the fifth biggest source market with around one million arrivals in 2019, many of the them doing a stopover visit. When Saudi Arabia opened to tourism in 2019, the maximum number of tourist visas issued were to Chinese tourists, more than 100,000 Chinese tourists visited Saudi Arabia in 2019.
A major opportunity to get familiar with the market is offered by the International tourism conference during the QTM Qatar Travel Mart 2023, which will take place on all three days of the fair, from 20-22 November at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre (DECC) in Doha, Qatar.
The second edition of Qatar Travel Mart returns after Qatar hosted the biggest sporting event FIFA World Cup 2022 and will offer a platform to gather entities beyond the realm of the sporting industry to support its demands from inside and outside the region.
Now more than ever, the travel and tourism industry needs a venue to create new connections, grasp fresh opportunities, and reconnect with existing relationships. The event will also host the QTM Conference to discuss the industry’s latest trends and innovations.
Under the Patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the conference has the theme "Discover Places, People, and Cultures" and is structured around five themes which are called the “Conference Pillars”:
· Sustainable Tourism Practices
· Tourism Policy & Regulations
· Strategy & Responsibility of Sports Tourism
· Future of Travel & Technological Innovations
· Tourism, Education, Training & Development
The CEO of COTRI, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt FRGS FRAS, will be the chair of the conference. COTRI will also have a booth during the QTM and is looking forward to welcome old and new friends, including the readers of COTRI INTELLIGENCE.
The conference program will also include discussion about the Chinese source market and will include speakers from several international organisation as the UNWTO, the World Tourism Association for Culture & Heritage (WTACH), the World Leisure Organization (WLO) and the World Association for Hospitality, Tourism Education and Training (AMFORHT).
